Bupa’s 20% corporate expansion offer: who qualifies

Bupa is offering a 20% discount on premiums for new, currently uninsured joiners added to certain existing corporate private medical insurance schemes. It is not a blanket 20% reduction on the whole scheme, and it is separate from Bupa’s direct-only small-business promotion.

Which businesses can qualify?

The terms are for UK-registered organisations with an existing experience-rated Bupa corporate scheme covering at least 50 members. The scheme must be a Bupa Select Company policy. SME age-rated schemes do not qualify.

The offer can be arranged directly with Bupa or through a broker. New joiners must be placed on the same benefit structure as the existing scheme, the cover must be employer-funded and employees must be enrolled on an opt-out basis.

What receives the discount?

The 20% reduction applies to premiums for people who are newly added and were not already insured under the scheme. It does not reduce the premium for employees who were already covered immediately before renewal.

At renewal, the discount applies for one policy year. For a qualifying mid-term addition, it applies for the remainder of that policy year. Bupa says it will not continue in later policy years.

Dates to check

The offer must be quoted and accepted between 1 August and 1 November 2026. Bupa does not state an exact closing time or timezone, so availability should be confirmed before the final day. The terms also say quotes remain valid for 28 days and contracts must be accepted within 90 days; ask Bupa to confirm how those timings apply to a particular renewal or mid-term change.

Affected products and customers

The offer concerns existing, experience-rated Bupa Select Company corporate schemes with at least 50 members. It applies to eligible new, currently uninsured joiners; it does not reduce premiums for members already covered. SME age-rated schemes are excluded.

What this means for you

If you manage a qualifying scheme and were already considering extending cover, ask for a written eligibility check before the offer deadline. Existing insured members do not need to take action to obtain a personal discount: the saving applies to qualifying additions. At renewal, separate the existing membership cost from the temporary saving on new joiners.

Broker interpretation: Assess whether extending cover fits your workforce and ongoing budget. Compare the total employer cost now and after the discount ends, rather than treating a one-year saving as the long-term price.

Ask your adviser: “Does our scheme and proposed enrolment qualify, which premiums receive the discount, and what happens to those premiums at the next renewal?”
